Yellowtail in the Baja Sun: A Perfect Day on the Sea with Allie Marie

Yellowtail!!!

There’s nothing quite like the thrill of a yellowtail hookup in the morning calm of the Sea of Cortez.

This was one of those unforgettable days. The kind where the ocean gives back. Brian and his fishing buddy, Nathan, were out early—lines in the water before the sun even stretched its arms over the Sierra de la Giganta. It was one of their first big runs after Brian got his 26’ Sea Pro Sportfish boat, Allie Marie, and she delivered.

They brought in a solid haul of yellowtail that day—bright, strong, and feisty. The kind of fish that make you work for it (and make the tacos taste that much better later).

Meet Allie Marie

If you haven’t met her yet, Allie Marie is the newest heart-throb in our Baja life. She’s a 2003 Sea Pro center console with space for charters, friends, and even the occasional barefoot shuttle ride for a beach wedding. She’s fast, steady, and handles our wild desert waters like a champ.

This trip was one of her first real test runs—and she passed with flying scales.

Why Yellowtail?

If you’re not familiar with Baja’s yellowtail (jurel), let me tell you—they’re legendary around here. Known for their speed, fight, and flavor, yellowtail are a favorite among local anglers. Whether you're trolling deep or watching for boils near rocky points, the moment you feel that pull is a moment you won’t forget.

They’re also incredible on the grill. We’ve got a few yellowtail recipes I’ll be sharing soon, so stay tuned!

Life Off-Grid, On the Water

This is why we love it here. The slow mornings that turn into fish stories. The boat that becomes part of your family. The catch you clean and share with neighbors. The way a good day on the water settles something deep inside.

More of this, always.
