Dani & Mo visiting us in Baja for the first time! Hopefully, many more!
about us
Welcome to OurBajaLife.com - your gateway to adventure, inspiration, and the exciting journey of Lisa and Brian (and family)!
We’re Lisa and Brian, the humans behind Our Baja Life.
We both grew up in the green and rainy Pacific Northwest – Lisa from Seattle and Brian from Vancouver – and for years our lives were a mix of city work, commutes, and any excuse to be near the water. We raised our daughter, Danielle, moved through a handful of great towns, built businesses, and did all the “normal” grown-up things you’re supposed to do.
Brian spent those years building and running Coleman Marine Systems, LLC – tinkering with boats, fixing systems, keeping people safe on the water. That experience with engines, tides, weather, and “things breaking at exactly the wrong time” is still a huge part of how we live and work here. If something at Casa Coleman needs repairing, re-rigging, or reinventing, Brian is usually in the middle of it with a tool in one hand and a fishing rod not too far away.
Eventually the itch for a different rhythm got too loud to ignore. Bit by bit, we started looking south. Long road trips, late-night conversations, and a lot of “what if…” dreaming led us to Mulegé – a little gem on the Sea of Cortez that felt like the canvas we’d been waiting for.
These days our life is a mix of fishing trips, boat days, and constant around-the-house projects: solar tweaks, water systems, garden experiments, and whatever the desert and the sea decide to throw at us. We’re not pretending to be hardcore survivalists. We’re just two people learning how to live more simply and intentionally, with internet good enough to work and ocean views that still make us stop and stare.
On Our Baja Life, you’ll find:
Real-life stories from our days in and around Mulegé – the beautiful moments and the messy ones.
Fishing and Sea of Cortez adventures powered by years of marine experience from Coleman Marine Systems.
Simple coastal recipes you can make in a small kitchen, often on a budget, sometimes on a grill or camp stove.
Off-grid(ish) lessons from power, water, weather, repairs, and all the “around the house” tinkering that keeps this place running.
Wellness & ritual ideas from Lisa’s natural-living and spiritual toolkit, always grounded in consent, curiosity, and choice.
Behind-the-scenes book and creative projects, because the writing and art are part of how we make sense of this life.
If you’re dreaming about a different kind of life, figuring out how to make the one you have feel more like you, or you’re just nosy about how people actually live and fish in Baja, you’re in the right place.
Pull up a chair, pour something cold, and welcome to our Baja life.
